When you order new hearing aids at the Audiology & Hearing Aid Center, we will make you an appointment to come back in about two weeks for a hearing aid fitting (in some instances, with the new open-fit hearing aids, you may be fitted the same day you order).

At the fitting appointment we have several things to accomplish. First we place your new hearing aids into your ears to make sure they fit properly wih no discomfort. Next we do some programming and calibrating using our sophisticated computers and software, to make sure the sound is just right for your hearing loss. We will verify these settings using "real-ear measurement" testing and possibly "functional gain" testing. These are both advanced techniques used to make sure your hearing aids are set just right for you... gone are the days when we'd just turn a screwdriver control and say, "So - how does that sound?"

When we're sure that the fit and sound are just right, we spend some time teaching you some things you'll need to know to be successful with your new hearing aids. We make sure you can get them in and out without any problems and that you know how to change the batteries, as well as how to keep them clean and dry. We show you how to use them with a telephone and how to adjust volume and change programs, if those are features that you have chosen.

If that sounds like a lot to absorb at one sitting, we agree! That's why we will invite you to attend one of our free hearing aid orientation seminars that are designed to teach you and your family memebers how to get the most from your new hearing aids! Last but not least, before you leave your fitting appointment, we will schedule a follow up appointment for about a week later. We will continue to meet with you, as needed, until we are sure you'll do great with your new hearing aids!
